The Flint Water Crisis

THE PROBLEM

This charitable organization successfully developed a disaster relief program to aid the residents of Flint, Michigan. To initiate the program, the client developed a relationship with an international supplier for  procurement purposes. However, the  client needed strategic tools and methods to support its disaster relief activities. In specific, the client needed a skilled relationship manager to facilitate the supplier relationship. Additionally, the client utilized ABCD & Company’s marketing capabilities to garner public support.

THE ABCD APPROACH

Consultants cultivated the relationship with the supplier and negotiated pricing to maximize the client’s purchasing power. Consultants also developed a marketing campaign to drive public support for the client’s initiative to distribute portable showers in response to the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. The campaign included development of digital marketing collateral that was used in tandem with the client’s social media accounts and its crowdfunding initiative. ABCD & Company’s marketing team also produced a repertoire of content and managed distribution of all items, including a series of press releases and all social media content. In addition, ABCD’s team facilitated development of strategic relationships to drive exposure and support for the client’s humanitarian efforts.

CLIENT OUTCOMES

Utilizing collateral developed by the marketing team, the client successfully orchestrated a crowdfunding campaign that raised over $10,000 within one week. The campaign exceeded its overall fundraising goal by 25%. As a result, the client was featured on a national news outlet, hosted by a syndicated and critically acclaimed journalist. Following this feature, the client successfully deployed a humanitarian team to Flint, Michigan, where they distributed portable showers to over 300 families.
